Like many other businesses, Maple Financial Group Inc and/or its subsidiaries (“Maple Financial”) may be the target of consumer security attacks or become the victim of the unauthorized use of our name and logo as part of a consumer fraud or identity theft crime.
For example, criminals may mail so-called "official" notices declaring that the recipient has won a lottery or sweepstakes using a variation of the Maple Financial name. The mailing includes a cheque with what appears to be the name of a legitimate business, but the cheque is counterfeit. The recipient is instructed to deposit the counterfeit cheque and deliver proceeds to pay taxes or other expenses to redeem the prize. After the criminal has the proceeds , the counterfeit cheque is discovered to be a fraud and unfortunately, the victim loses his/her money.
It has come to Maple Financial’s attention that a Maple-Trust Financial Group Inc. letter describing a lottery win has been distributed to certain people Maple Financial Group Inc. has no connection with this alleged lottery and no connection with Maple-Trust Financial Group Inc.
